Grilling is the perfect way to both prepare delicious food and socialize with friends and family, so I have always enjoyed sharing a glass of wine and talking to guests as I am creating the meal. I come from a military family so I’ve incorporated regional inspirations into many of the dishes I make for myself and my family. I’ve had the pleasure of living in a variety of locations so I try to showcase the unique flavors from those regions such as the Southwest, Pennsylvania Dutch Region and American South in my recipes.

My husband Dan is an Air Force pilot and we are currently living in New Mexico. Our state and its unique Southwest flavors were the inspiration for this dish, as it features both chipotles and ancho chili. I love bold, spicy foods so I had fun creating this dish and working on the perfect wine pairing. The Beringer Founders’ Estate Merlot was an easy choice as it compliments the smokiness of the chipotles and the heat of the ancho chili.

My husband Dan is coming to the Great Steak Challenge with me and we are looking forward to the trip that will be the honeymoon we never had an opportunity to take after getting married. Supporting me from home would be our three beautiful, hilarious children, who hopefully are behaving for their Nana while Mom and Dad are in the Napa Valley!
